Caterpillar® Introduces New C9.3 ACERT™ Industrial Engine for Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB With Peak Power Over 440 hp

Paris, France . – Intermat, the international construction exhibition in Paris Nord-Villepinte, provides the perfect stage for the introduction of the Cat C9.3 ACERT™, the newest industrial engine addition to the Cat® Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB technology product lineup. The 9.3 Liter platform offers excellent power density with ratings from 275-410 hp (205-305 kW). It can also be configured to produce peak power over 440 hp (328 kW).

Utilizing a simple, innovative asymmetric turbocharger for more efficient air management and a Cat Common Rail Fuel System, the new Cat® C9.3 with ACERT™ technology improves fuel consumption by up to 5%. Fuel economy improvements are dependent upon and subject to application, rating and operating conditions.

Equipped with a robust, fully integrated Cat Clean Emissions Module (CEM) and the Cat NOx Reduction System (NRS), the new package has been extensively tested to provide Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with the optimum flexibility for cleaner, more efficient, reliable Cat power. The CEM simplifies aftertreatment installation with a flexible design that allows mounting in several possible configurations. With common connection points and a next generation A4 electronic control unit, the new Cat C9.3 with ACERT™ technology is engineered for easy installation into OEM applications currently powered by the Tier 3/Stage IIIA compliant Cat C9 with ACERT technology as well as new customer applications.

Concurrent with this announcement, Caterpillar has been conducting a series of Tier 4 integration workshops with OEM partners. These workshops promote a collaborative working relationship and provide the opportunity to tailor installation solutions that optimize specific customer and application requirements.

The current Tier 3/Stage IIIA compliant Cat C9 with ACERT technology platform will continue to be offered and will continue to power industrial applications in countries not subject to the stringent Tier 4 Interim/Stage IIIB emissions standards.

The Cat C9.3 with ACERT technology has been developed by the world’s largest equipment maker and benefits from the Caterpillar legacy of deep engine and OEM machine integration experience. This reliable new engine platform will be used in many demanding applications including rock drills, air compressors, agriculture and irrigation applications.

The Cat C9.3 with ACERT technology utilizes the full complement of ACERT technology building blocks to achieve a significant 90% reduction of Particulate Matter and a 45% reduction of Oxides of Nitrogen from current Tier 3/Stage IIIA levels.
