Hamburg – freenet.de GmbH launched the new channel “Digital World” (http://digitalewelt.freenet.de) that will combine the topics Computers & Accessories, Software & Operating Systems, Audio, Video, Photo and Security (PC & Internet). Ushering in new services and improved usability for users, the channel “Digital World” has been implemented with content management software from CoreMedia. The new channel forms part of freenet.de’s step-by-step portal migration project to CoreMedia CMS and its Social Software Extension. freenet.de’s Car Channel has already been launched successfully in late 2008. With support from CoreMedia, freenet.de is now planning to restructure its entire portal.Simultaneously, its mobile portal content (http://mobil.freenet.de) will also be expanded and streamlined, meaning that users will be able to access content and products on freenet.de from anywhere - independent of terminal or place

In introducing CoreMedia CMS as new content management system, numerous Web 2.0 features such as intelligent content output based on recommendations and personalization can now be incorporated. Other achievements include the seamless, simplified interfacing with the content supplier IDG Communications Media AG, plus automated integration of new content and migration of existing data. The new user interface, coupled with a newly-introduced style guide, offers significantly improved usability. And users will be thrilled by the increase in site performance.

“There were many reasons to use CoreMedia’s content management system as the foundation for the restructuring of the freenet portal,” explains Kai Schulmann, managing director of freenet.de GmbH. “A particularly impressive factor was the extreme flexibility of the CMS coupled with its platform independence. With CoreMedia CMS, we will be able to present our content ideally, on both the PC-based and mobile Internet.”

“With its portal redesign, freenet.de aims to exploit to the full its technological options and potential for future development,” comments Martin Pakendorf, Director at CoreMedia. “In creating new, interactive, intelligent and highly-personalized formats for site users, the aim is to further increase customer engagement. CoreMedia CMS is the ideal system for providing the functionality that freenet needs.”
