Scaled-down Version of NetXpress Platform for Radio Broadcasters Aimed at Point-to-Point Program Delivery

CINCINNATI. — Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, will expand its Harris® Intraplex® range of audio transport products for the radio broadcast market with the introduction of Intraplex® NetXpress™ LX. The NetXpress LX IP audio codec will be displayed at the 2009 NAB Show (Booth N2502). Based on the original NetXpress platform, NetXpress LX offers full-time, mission-critical audio transport for point-to-point applications including STL delivery and studio-to-studio links in a cost-efficient, compact package.

Harris Intraplex products are the industry standard for dependable, great-sounding audio links for “always on” applications. Intraplex NetXpress LX is the only 1RU IP audio codec equipped to carry up to four bidirectional stereo audio streams. It is also the only platform of its kind capable of creating a segregated Ethernet path for HD Radio™ program transport and carrying traditional “off-premise extension” voice channels alongside program audio.

“The audio transport market in the radio broadcast industry has been moving steadily from legacy TDM services to IP-based services,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. “Harris has filled the high-end sector of this market with NetXpress, building a reputation for reliability in complex, geographically widespread IP audio networks. We are now bringing the same quality of service to broadcasters that are migrating to IP with more straightforward audio transport requirements.”

NetXpress LX offers a vast array of features for reliable IP audio transport, including low processing delay, adjustable packet size, programmable jitter buffer depth, advanced Intraplex forward error correction, Quality of Service priority tagging, unidirectional or bidirectional unicast streaming, and unidirectional multicast streaming. A variety of convenient provisioning and management tools enhance operational efficiency for radio broadcasters at both the studio and the transmitter site.

In addition to robust performance for fixed inter-facility applications, NetXpress LX is suitable as an “edge” device working together with the original NetXpress platform in large, multi-site networks.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions for broadcast, cable, satellite and out-of-home networks. The Harris ONE™ solution brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that enable advanced media workflows for emerging content delivery business models.
