WYOMING, Mich. — Delphi Corporation (Pinksheets: DPHIQ), a leading global supplier of powertrain systems, received an Excellent Award in the area of quality from Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA). The recognition ceremony was part of TEMA’s Annual Supplier Business Meeting (ABM) held in Covington, KY, on March 10, 2009.

Toyota annually recognizes suppliers achieving the highest standards in quality, value improvement, supplier diversity, technology, and launch performance from across North America. Overall, three North American suppliers earned top honors with a Superior Award. Thirty-seven (37) Excellent Awards were handed out to TEMA suppliers.

Toyota’s ABM brings together approximately 500 of TEMA’s North American suppliers to share current-year objectives, enhance relationships, and recognize suppliers exceeding expectations. Approximately 63,000 supplier jobs are dedicated to Toyota in more than 35 U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico. Toyota collectively spent nearly $30 billion on parts, goods and services last year in North America.

“Toyota values the contribution of our 500 North American suppliers,” said Tetsuo Agata, TEMA President. “We are grateful for their continued support. Our future success here is directly linked to the success of our suppliers.”

Delphi was recognized for its Hydraulic Lash Adjusters (HLAs). An HLA is an internal engine component used for maintaining valve opening and closing performance in internal combustion overhead cam engines. HLAs compensate for normal engine wear and thermal expansion and contraction. They help ensure the valve train always operates — that is, opens and closes — in the same manner from the first mile driven through the vehicle’s normal life, without requiring adjustment or routine maintenance. By guaranteeing valve performance, HLAs keep fuel economy, drivability and emissions levels constant throughout an engine’s duration.

“This recognition from Toyota is a tremendous honor for our people here locally and the Delphi team around the world,” said Delphi’s Edward DiEnno, plant manager for the Wyoming, Mich., facility. "This achievement shows the Delphi team’s focus both on operational excellence and on ’getting the job done’ in an environment filled with potential distractions. I take my hat off to everyone involved, and I continue to be impressed with this team’s commitment to excellence.

“We have been recognized for a consistent focus on our customer, and we look forward to continuing at that extremely high level going forward.”
