Sorrento Networks Earns Rural Utilities Service Acceptance

WEBWIRE

DENVER—April 7, 2009— Sorrento Networks’ GigaMux product portfolio has received technical acceptance from the Rural Utilities Service (RUS), a division of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This certifies the acceptance of the GigaMux 50, 1600, 3200 and 6400 for use in telecommunications networks built with loans from RUS.

To advance telecommunications services throughout US-based rural communities, RUS provides loans and grants to fund infrastructure build-out initiatives. To receive financing, RUS requires that borrowers buy only those products that have received RUS technical acceptance. The Sorrento GigaMux product line has met all RUS requirements and standards, enabling RUS borrowers to deploy GigaMux products to support growing bandwidth requirements in their rural areas.

Designed for tomorrow’s bandwidth needs and today’s budgets, Sorrento’s GigaMux CWDM and DWDM metro transport solutions free carriers and enterprises from restrictive transport technologies and provide system flexibility to accommodate changing end-user demands. A protocol-independent design allows the GigaMux products to transport and extend network traffic, enabling rural networks to evolve based on their fluctuating bandwidth requirements.

“Regardless of where you live, we believe everyone should have access to high speed voice and data services to stay connected and to compete in the global marketplace,” said Jim Nevelle, CEO, Sorrento Networks. “For this reason, we felt compelled to seek technical acceptance from RUS. The GigaMux portfolio provides powerful options for rural communities based on the low-cost investment, flexibility and scalability. These products give carriers and businesses what they need now and the infrastructure to support future growth.”
