NEW YORK CITY. – When Derek Jeter and David Wright step to the plate this season they will bat for a good cause. The New York Yankees’ All-Star shortstop and New York Mets’ All-Star third baseman are squaring off in Delta’s Jeter/Wright Batting Challenge. As the official airline and proud sponsor of New York’s two beloved baseball teams, Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) is launching the season-long friendly batting challenge to support the players’ foundations. At the conclusion of the regular season, Delta will make a $100,000 donation to the foundation of the player with the highest batting average. Delta will also donate $50,000 to the foundation of the runner up.

The results of Delta’s Jeter/Wright Batting Challenge will be determined by the highest batting average at the end of the regular season, based on a minimum of 400 plate appearances. In the event a player is unable to reach 400 plate appearances, Delta will nullify the Challenge and donate $75,000 to each player’s foundation. Jeter will be batting for his foundation, the Turn 2 Foundation, which creates and supports signature programs and activities that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and “Turn 2” healthy lifestyles. Wright will step to the plate for the David Wright Foundation, which provides aid and assistance toward the health, emotional development, and education for children in need in the New York, Tri-State, and Norfolk, VA metro areas.

Jeter commented, “The New York Yankees and the Turn 2 Foundation are two of my great passions, and I couldn’t be happier to take part in the Delta Batting Challenge.
