Alcatel-Lucent expands IP transformation of network for Delta Telecom in Azerbaijan

WEBWIRE

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has been awarded an extension contract by Delta Telecom, a fast growing data, voice and backbone service provider in the Caucasus region, to extend its IP Multi-Protocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) backbone network. The scope of the contract includes design, deployment and maintenance of the network.

Alcatel-Lucent’s Carrier Ethernet and IP/MPLS solutions enable Delta Telecom LLC to offer highly reliable communication services to its business customers. The newly upgraded IP/MPLS network will form the platform for future services, which will enable the next wave of advanced services with minimal further investment.

Alcatel-Lucent’s IP/MPLS solution supports Delta Telecom’s evolution to a packet-based network architecture as part of the operator’s ongoing MPLS network transformation process. This approach enables Delta Telecom to support the convergence of IP voice, data and video over Layer 2 and/or Layer 3 business VPN services with the performance and resiliency necessary to run latency-sensitive applications. The solution also enables Delta Telecom to tailor business VPN service offerings to each enterprise’s unique requirements.

”Market demand for higher bandwidth and the spread of interconnectivity in Azerbaijan is increasing at an extremely fast pace. Economies of scale inherent with this expanded IPMPLS network will enable Delta Telecom to offer reduced tariffs to its service provider customers; which is an important ingredient in developing our affordable broadband strategy” said Ramazan Valiyev, General Director of Delta Telecom.

”IP/MPLS is the strategic direction for network transformation and will help us to meet customers’ demand for advanced data services. We believe Alcatel-Lucent’s premium IP/MPLS solution and experience in network transformation will give us a significant advantage as we move to the next phase of our network infrastructure, he added.”

“This exclusive project solidifies Alcatel-Lucent’s strong presence in Azerbaijan and our commitment to enable Delta Telecom to provide enhanced communications to their end-users, narrowing the digital divide so crucial to economic and social development.” said Sevket Kaan Ağaoglu, Alcatel-Lucent’s Country Senior Officer in Azerbaijan.

Over 250 service providers in more than 100 countries around the world have selected the Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS portfolio as key elements of their IP transformation. According to Ovum RHK, Alcatel-Lucent holds the # 2 position in the IP/MPLS Edge market segment.
