Group Logic Identifies a Workaround Solution for Mac OS X 10.5.6 “No Results” Search Problem

WEBWIRE

(Arlington VA) - For users running Mac OS X 10.5.6 clients searching on AFP (Apple Filing Protocol) servers not running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, Group Logic has identified a workaround solution to the “no results” search problem and has published a Knowledge Base article that details the steps users can take to now search productively.

An Apple bug discovered in Mac OX 10.5.6 causes it to report no search results when searching non-Leopard servers mounted over AFP. This bug was reported in January 2009 and has been the subject of much discussion. Affected servers include Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger), Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), as well as third-party AFP servers including ExtremeZ-IP, and Microsoft’s now discontinued Services for Macintosh (SFM) on Windows 2000 or Windows 2003.

The solution identified by Group Logic is a free search utility that can be used in lieu of the Spotlight Client search tool built-in to 10.5.6. Group Logic recommends the use of this workaround until the problem is fixed in a future release of Mac OS X.
