Alcatel selected by Technip to supply an integrated communications solution for the Akpo offshore field of Total in Nigeria

Paris, February 6, 2006 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today announced that it has been awarded a contract by Technip, a leader in a consortium with Hyundai Heavy Industries, to supply an integrated telecommunications solution for the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) of the Akpo offshore oil field in Nigeria. The field is operated by Total Upstream Nigeria Limited.

Thanks to Alcatel’s strong expertise in complex project integration, Total, as the end user, will benefit from fully interconnected installations, transporting voice, data and video. It will also take advantage of flexible, scalable and vendor-neutral solutions providing communications, safety and security systems.

Responsible for the full telecommunications solution implementation, Alcatel will design, procure, integrate, install and commission all telecommunications applications, comprising more than 25 subsystems. Main subsystems include Public Address/General Alarm, radio systems, CCTV, Alcatel OmniPCX Enterprise communication servers, telephone and data. The installation and integration will be performed on board the FPSO in the Hyundai Heavy Industry shipyard in Korea, and will be commissioned in Korea and in Nigeria (after towing). The project began in July 2005, and the FPSO will be ready for start up in the third quarter of 2008.
