Harris Corporation Named One of the World’s Most Admired Companies by Fortune Magazine

MELBOURNE, Florida — Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has been named one of the world’s most admired companies for the third consecutive year in an annual survey by Fortune magazine.

Harris ranked as the sixth most admired company in the “Network Communications” industry. The company ranked fourth in the industry in social responsibility and fifth in the categories of people management, use of corporate assets, and long-term investment. Companies in the top five for the industry category were Cisco Systems, Qualcomm, Nokia, Juniper Networks and Corning.

“The Fortune list is considered a definitive report card on corporate reputations,” said Howard L. Lance, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Harris. “It’s an honor to be rated highly by our peers and others within the industry and a testament to the success that our 16,000 employees have achieved in delivering highly reliable, secure, assured communications® for our customers’ most demanding, mission-critical applications.”

To determine the most admired companies, Fortune started with the 1,400 largest (ranked by revenue) U.S. companies, non-U.S. companies, and foreign companies operating in the U.S. The companies were sorted by 64 industries and then culled to the 15 largest for each international industry and 10 largest for each U.S. industry. Fortune then asked executives, directors, and analysts to rate the companies in their own industry on nine criteria, including: innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long-term investment, quality of products and services, and global competitiveness. To be included on Fortune’s list this year a company’s score had to rank in the top half of its industry survey.
