Successful IOSA registration for Austrian Airlines and Tyrolean Airways

In February 2009, the Austrian Airlines Group received a highly regarded confirmation from the International Air Transport Association (IATA): Austrian Airlines and also Tyrolean Airways successfully completed the strictly controlled cyclical IOSA - audit. This demonstrated that the carriers of the Group – Austrian Airlines, Tyrolean Airways– were still committed to adhering to the high globally-accepted international safety standards.

With this certification, passengers can trust in the flight safety of Austrian Airlines and Tyrolean Airways. Since the programme has gained international acceptance, moreover, the Austrian Airlines Group is able to enter into cooperation agreements such as codeshares more quickly and with less bureaucracy than ever before: with other IATA airlines recognising the registration amongst other members, individual carriers involved in codeshare agreements need no longer carry out extensive checks on the standards of their partners. This makes administrative processes significantly simpler, generating major increases in efficiency and cost-savings on both sides. Austrian Airlines were first audited in 2003. Under IOSA, the audit is conducted on a two year cycle.

Austrian Chief Operating Officer Dr. Peter Malanik said the following about the latest registration renewal of Austrian Airlines and Lauda Air: “I am very pleased that both Austrian Airlines and Tyrolean Airways have succeeded in renewing their IOSA registration. This confirms our long-term strategy, according to which we have always accorded the highest priority to our technical reliability and maximum safety in the interest of passengers. We will continue to implement this successful policy, naturally"

Tyrolean Airways Managing Director Manfred Helldoppler made the following statement regarding the registration of Tyrolean Airways: “As a dynamic regional airline, Tyrolean Airways can more than hold our own amongst the Premier League of major carriers. The series of awards we have won in recent years, including Regional Airline of the Year Silver Award 2007–08, are further evidence of our leading position in a range of different areas.”

IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA)
IATA’s Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) is an internationally established and acknowledged programme used to examine areas of operational safety processes. The audit covers a wide range of areas within an airline, including the processes involved in flight operations, dispatch, ground handling processes for aircraft, aircraft maintenance processes, cabin operations, and of course operational safety. This confirms the commitment of the company to operate flights that are safe and reliable at all times, in the interest of its passengers.
