UPMC Health Plan Donates Super Bowl Tickets To Patients At Children’s Hospital Of Pittsburgh

WEBWIRE

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 2, 2006 — UPMC Health Plan is donating its tickets for Super Bowl XL in Detroit to two patients at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, so that they can have the opportunity to cheer on the Pittsburgh Steelers in person with their families.

UPMC Health Plan has given its tickets to the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the fundraising arm of the hospital.

“Whenever the Steelers play in the Super Bowl, it’s a special time for families in Western Pennsylvania,” said Diane P. Holder, president of UPMC Health Plan and the UPMC Insurance Services Division. “We wanted to do something to help a family with a sick child share in the joy of this event, and we wanted to create a family memory that will last a lifetime.”

Four of UPMC Health Plan’s tickets will be used by Shawn Clemens Jr., 16, of Hempfield Township, who plans to attend along with his mother, Wanda, his father, Shawn Sr., and his 15-year-old brother, Cory. Shawn, a member of UPMC Health Plan, is being treated by Paul Rosen, M.D., clinical director of the Division of Rheumatology at Children’s Hospital.

The Health Plan’s remaining two tickets will go to Katie M. Miller, 12, and her mother, Tina of Clarksburg, Indiana County. Katie is being treated by Vincent F. Deeney, M.D., an orthopaedic surgeon at Children’s Hospital.

UPMC Health Plan has given funds to the Children’s Hospital Foundation to cover all expenses for the families to travel and stay in Detroit and attend the game between the Steelers and Seattle Seahawks, which is set for Sunday, Feb. 5 at Ford Field.

“By working with the Children’s Hospital Foundation, we get to partner with an organization that, like us, is deeply involved with the health of families in Western Pennsylvania,” said Ms. Holder.
