Health-on-Line comments on the increased demand for cancer screening

Health-on-Line, the online Private Medical Insurance (PMI) company, urges the public to ensure they are clear on the level of benefits included in their health insurance policy, following reports of an increase in demand for cancer screening, after details of celebrities currently receiving treatment for cancer emerge.

Mike Dalby, Director of Health-on-Line, comments “The recent media coverage of individuals suffering from cancer has had a direct impact on the number of people seeking reassurance through medical screening and charities have already reported a marked increased in demand for smear tests in women under the age of 45.”

“Although PMI is not designed to cover routine screening, if a routine screen identified an individual had cancer, a private medical insurance policy could assist in providing immediate access to the most appropriate treatment. And fast diagnosis and treatment of cancer can make all the difference.”

“For individuals looking to take out PMI, it is important they are clear on the level of benefits available. We offer a modular policy, which allows individuals to tailor a policy to meet their own circumstances. We do however, feel it is really important that all policyholders have access to the most appropriate treatment and have therefore included, in our core benefits, access to radiotherapy and chemotherapy and access to licensed drugs such as Avastin and Herceptin, for 12 months as standard. And if cancer treatment is an important consideration we provide our policyholders with the option to increase this to 36 months.”

Dalby concludes “Even for people who already have cover in place, it is vital to review the benefits available on the current scheme and look around if they feel it is simply not enough. In some cases, we have helped people to save up to 36% (savings based on most recent 300 quotations where clients have disclosed the existing premium – November 2008) on existing premiums.
