Kingston, Jamaica, February 20, 2009 - Three of the digital marketing industry’s leading experts will present at Social Media Marketing, a workshop presented by Survivors Unlimited, in the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on February 26, 2009. Marketers and other business professionals will be given an intensive, hands-on overview about how to use social networks for marketing and public relations. All proceeds from the event will go to Survivors Unlimited, a support organization helping bereaved children in Jamaica.

Presenting at the workshop will be Elixir Interactive CEO Fionn Downhill, Digital Marketing Strategist and Entrepreneur Ingrid Riley, and Newsforce founder Dana Todd. This expert panel of presenters boasts a combined experience of over 25 years in digital marketing. Topics they are scheduled to present on include: an introduction to social media, blogging for success, online PR, and viral marketing strategies.

“This is new territory and, I think, a little threatening, yet still a great opportunity for traditional communicators,” explains Ingrid Riley, who is well known in Jamaica’s high-tech community. During the workshop, she and the other instructors will help traditional businesses understand where social media fits into overall marketing strategy, reveal how to approach getting started, and also provide recommendations for specific, real-world challenges that attendees are currently facing.

This event serves as a fundraiser during a time when corporate sponsorships and donations are few due to global economic crisis. “I am proud to be part of this great initiative and raise funds for the Survivors Unlimited,” said Downhill. The demand for counselors who help children that have lost loved ones is increasing in Jamaica. Through hosting this workshop, Survivors Unlimited hopes to gain enough funding to run a much-needed training program for additional support personnel.

The Social Media Marketing Workshop will take place on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at The Jamaica Pegasus from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Additional information about the event is available from Survivors Unlimited on their website at http://www.survivorsja.com
