NASA Extends Safety and Mission Assurance Contract at Marshall Space Flight Center

WASHINGTON -- NASA has exercised a one-year option with Bastion Technologies Inc. of Houston for continued services in support of the Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala., through Jan. 31, 2010.

The contract is a cost plus award fee with award term arrangements. The current potential value of the contract, including this $33.3 million contract option, is $100 million. Subsequent unexercised options and award terms extend the total period of performance to 2017, with a total potential value of more than $376 million. Hernandez Engineering Inc. of Houston was competitively selected for this contract in January 2007. Subsequent to the award, Hernandez Engineering Inc. merged with Bastion Technologies Inc., and the contract was transferred through a novation agreement.

For Marshall’s Safety and Mission Assurance Directorate, Bastion Technologies Inc. provides services, equipment and supplies associated with industrial safety and system safety, reliability and maintainability engineering associated with the design and development engineering and testing performed by the field center. It also provides safety and mission assurance management information, quality assurance and quality engineering, independent assessment services and documentation, project assurance and risk management.
