Long Term Evolution (LTE) Demonstration Network Shows Maturity of Motorola LTE Solution in a Real-World Environment; Accelerates the Delivery of Rich Media Experiences

Barcelona, SPAIN – Mobile World Congress 2009 - Motorola, Inc., (NYSE: MOT) today announced it has deployed a Long Term Evolution (LTE) network over which it will demonstrate live LTE experiences moving through the streets of Barcelona for the duration of Mobile World Congress 2009.

During the Motorola LTE drive tour, visitors will be driven around the streets of Barcelona to experience the performance of LTE in a real-life metropolitan RF environment, including site to site hand-over. Visitors will also be able to experience a number of demanding applications running over LTE, including High Definition (HD) streaming video and a collection of high bandwidth and low latency Internet-based applications. The drive tour showcases Motorola’s latest OFDM-based wireless network infrastructure operating at 2.6GHz, utilizing the Aeroflex TM500 LTE test mobile which provides a platform for replicating LTE handsets prior to the availability of commercial devices. In addition, the LTE tour will connect live with Motorola’s booth (A159, Hall 8) to demonstrate HD video blogging between the two locations. Visitors to Motorola’s booth can also see live demonstrations of Motorola’s new LTE terminal development platform illustrating Motorola’s commitment to accelerate the arrival of LTE.

“Motorola’s live LTE demonstration in Barcelona is a milestone proving our LTE solutions are maturing rapidly and running effectively in urban network environments,” said Darren McQueen, vice president, wireless broadband networks, Motorola Home & Networks Mobility. “Our field trial experience shows that LTE has the power to address the requirements of mobile operators wanting to lower the cost of data delivery and increase network capacity to open new markets and deliver the rich media experiences consumers demand today.”

Further LTE demonstrations at the Motorola booth include:

* LTE video streaming experience, utilizing Motorola’s video headend solutions
* A live interactive comparison showing the impact of LTE quality of service (QoS) on the user experience and LTE MIMO capabilities
* UMTS to LTE handoff - demonstrating how LTE successfully enhances and integrates with existing cellular networks.

LTE brings true mobile broadband, giving users a personalized, affordable media experience at home and while on the go. LTE is based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), a next-generation radio frequency technology that has high spectral efficiency, and utilizes an all-IP flat architecture. This results in increased capacity and delivers a lower cost per bit, enabling the efficient delivery of mobile broadband services to the mass market.
