Mortsel (Belgium), February 1, 2006, The Salzburger Landeskliniken (Salzburg District Hospitals group or SALK) in Austria has awarded a contract to GWI, a subsidiary of Agfa, to implement its ORBIS® hospital-wide information system, including ORBIS RIS (Radiology Information System), as well as Agfa’s leading PACS System, IMPAX and CR (Computed Radiography) equipment.

Under the terms of the 6.7 million euros / $8.3 million USD agreement, SALK’s current system will be replaced by ORBIS at the end of 2006. In addition to the 6.7 million euros, the contract also includes provision of support and maintenance for 60 months.

SALK’s decision to partner with Agfa is based on a number of reasons, including the holistic and process-based approach of ORBIS and its NICE® interface, which is extremely user-friendly. GWI’s proven experience in the development and implementation of large-scale hospital information systems, along with testimonials from customers currently benefiting from ORBIS solutions also contributed to the SALK decision, as did Agfa’s ability to provide a broad and differentiated portfolio in radiology imaging & IT, including services.

Marko Schmitz, GWI Managing Director of Sales & Marketing, commented: “The decision by SALK is a further confirmation of the mature and innovative solution concept of ORBIS and the power of the integration with Agfa. The extensive functionality offered by ORBIS is the wave of the future in healthcare management, providing more transparency and organizational efficiency in all hospital departments.”

The system to be implemented at SALK will include the central IT infrastructure, ORBIS as the hospital information system with an integrated RIS (Radiology Information System) and IMPAX PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System). In association with the SALK IS project group, Agfa is developing a multi-level introduction process for ORBIS, which foresees the integration of all essential functional areas, including the laboratory, and an entry to electronic care documentation.

ORBIS offers quality of patient treatment and fast and complete availability of patients’ histories, including all images and data. Accurate patient data and histories will be available to nursing, technical and medical staff at the Salzburg District Hospitals group, allowing for faster and better diagnoses and treatments.

The group will also be supported by an integrated model for scheduling outpatient visits, etc., which will significantly reduce waiting time for patients.

The Salzburg District Hospitals provide a comprehensive range of health services to approximately 650,000 people in the Austrian state of Salzburg and surrounding regions. With approximately 4,900 employees, SALK is the biggest employer in the state of Salzburg.
