WEBWIRE

Tokyo - February 1, 2006: Motorola Inc. (NYSE:MOT) announced today that they have successfully co-developed, with NTT DoCoMo, a high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) prototype that can be used on WCDMA(3GPP Rel5) networks worldwide. The prototype which achieves a downlink data rate of up to 3.6Mbps(*), is optimized to enable maximal use of future high-speed data applications and new services.

“This result of co-development by Motorola and NTT DoCoMo reflects the close relationship between the two companies as well as our technical innovation toward the implementation of mobile broadband.” said Bill Werner, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Devices Business, Motorola, Inc. “Now, through the successful development of this prototype, NTT DoCoMo and other carriers worldwide will be able to utilize the latest technologies to offer new services and experiences. Motorola is committed to driving continued innovation and developments to deliver a seamless mobility experience to consumers.”

Leveraging the achievement of joint development with NTT DoCoMo, Motorola will be able to actively undertake the Interoperability Test partnering with carriers and vendors from around the world. The prototype will be exhibited not only in the NTT DoCoMo and Motorola stands but also the European carrier in line with the deployment of HSDPA, at 3GSM 2006 in Barcelona on February 13-16.

About HSDPA
HSDPA is one key technology for making mobile broadband possible. It represents the next step in evolution from UMTS, and offers merits in terms of both performance and commercial feasibility. Because HSDPA has superior spectrum efficiency, it can support higher data traffic than UMTS and mobile broadband speeds for more users. HSDPA attains a peak download speed of up to 14 Mbps(*) as per specifications.

(*) Actual speeds will vary, and are often less than the maximum possible. Speeds are affected by several factors including, but not limited to: the capacity of and the services offered by your operator or service provider, network traffic, equipment used, type of server, number of connections to server, and availability of router(s).
