Crews helped to restore power to 111,000 after ice storm

Baton Rouge, La. – After spending 10 days helping to restore power to Arkansas residents after last month’s ice storm, restoration workers from Entergy’s Louisiana utility companies are retuning home to the New Orleans area on Tuesday.

The crews were part of a contingent of more than 500 workers from Louisiana that included linemen, scouts, customer service personnel and support staff. The employees, who left for Arkansas on Tues., Jan. 27, included workers from Entergy Louisiana, LLC, Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. and Entergy New Orleans, Inc.

“We are happy that we were able to pitch in and help get the lights back on for people in Arkansas,” said Dennis Dawsey, vice president of Entergy’s Louisiana distribution operations. “Our crews not only worked extremely hard in difficult conditions but they also worked safely to get power restored as quickly as possible. They did a great job in Arkansas, but we’re happy to have them home.”

More than 111,000 residents of Arkansas lost power in the ice storm that hit the state in late January and dropped two inches of ice on parts of the state. The storm damaged more than 5,000 utility poles and 700 distribution transformers. The 500-person strong Louisiana restoration crew was part of more than 5,000 restoration workers who traveled to Arkansas from as far away as Florida and included employees from Entergy’s sister companies in Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.

Entergy’s utility companies support each other and participate in mutual assistance agreements with utility companies across the country. When Entergy companies need assistance after storms, restoration workers are sent to help safely restore power to customers.

Entergy’s Louisiana utility companies serve more than one million customers through the operating companies Entergy Louisiana, LLC and Entergy Gulf States Louisiana, L.L.C. With operations in southern, central and northeastern Louisiana, the companies are part of Entergy Corporation’s electric system serving 2.7 million customers in Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.

Entergy New Orleans, Inc. is an electric and gas utility serving Orleans Parish and is a subsidiary of Entergy Corporation. The company provides electricity to more than 141,000 customers and natural gas to more than 88,000 customers in Orleans Parish.
