Service Enables Couples to Save Money and Still Splurge on Romance - With a Movie Date at Home

The economic downturn doesn’t have to mean a less romantic Valentine’s Day. Couples who are looking to save money on dating expenses can still splurge on romance with a cozy date at home, featuring a movie from Verizon’s FiOS video on demand. A recent national survey, commissioned by Verizon, of 1,026 adults found that a majority (57 percent) plan to spend more time at home turning to their television instead of events outside the home.

“Staying at home for a date can be just as romantic as going out,” said Shruti Joshi, director of marketing for Verizon. “We expect that on Valentine’s Day many of our FiOS TV subscribers will take advantage of the chance to use video on demand to enjoy recently released romantic comedy and action films with their special someones.”

The most recent releases that can be enjoyed on FiOS TV video on demand - all available in high-definition - include: “The Duchess,” “Ghost Town,” “Mamma Mia,” “My Best Friend’s Girl,” “Nights in Rodanthe,” “Vicky Cristina Barcelona,” “Bangkok Dangerous,” “Eagle Eye,” “Burn After Reading” and “Swing Vote.”

“Because we’re delivering FiOS TV over the nation’s most advanced fiber-optic network, straight to customer’s doors, our subscribers can access interactive video services that help them save time and money, and enjoy unparalleled picture quality and programming choices for all their TV viewing,” said Joshi. “Our industry-leading VOD library gives customers a front seat to all of the best on-demand entertainment, with the convenience of watching what they want, whenever they want.”

New customers who subscribe to FiOS TV between now and Feb. 21 will receive their choice of free use for six months of either a high-definition (HD) digital video recorder (DVR) or an HD Home Media DVR. Customers who take advantage of this offer will save between $95 and $119 for the first six months, depending upon the DVR customers choose.

FiOS TV offers a broad collection of programming, with more than 400 all-digital channels and 14,000 video-on-demand (VOD) titles each month - 70 percent of which are free. Verizon’s VOD library also includes more than 1,200 HD titles. FiOS TV is currently available to more than 9.2 million homes in 14 states.
