Sun Java System Identity Manager, part of the Sun Java Enterprise System of subscription-based infrastructure software, makes Sun “an identity management powerhouse.”

MENLO PARK, Calif. -- January 31, 2006 -- Forrester Research today named Sun Microsystems “an identity management powerhouse,” citing the company’s Sun Java System Identity Manager software that offers businesses a “feature- rich solution” that also can be deployed quickly and cost-effectively. Forrester’s analysis of Sun appeared in The Forrester Wave: User Account Provisioning, Q1 2006.

The Sun Identity Manager software and the broader Sun Java System Identity Management Suite are at the core of the Sun Java Enterprise System, a revolutionary, open-source, subscription-based approach to infrastructure software that reduces cost and complexity throughout the data center. It runs as part of the Solaris Enterprise System and other leading software platforms both as a single, fully integrated, end-to-end infrastructure software solution and as six individual solution suites -- including Identity Management -- that target companies’ most critical business needs.

The Forrester report concluded that, “By a large margin, Sun Java System Identity Manager came in as the most-function-rich solution in Forrester’s evaluation. The product led all of its competitors in several categories: connector functionality, policy management, auditing, and architecture. ... Sun Java System Identity Manager does everything a user would want a provisioning product to do.1”

“We are gratified to see how well we fared against our competitors when Forrester rigorously evaluated all of the solutions against approximately 125 specific criteria,” said Sara Gates, vice president of Identity Management at Sun Microsystems. “Our commitment at Sun is to offer identity management software that lets companies make security a seamless part of their business in ways that help them unlock value and make money. We are pleased by Forrester’s recognition.”

Forrester’s analysis noted that Sun Java System Identity Manager “is an especially good fit for buyers that seek the best all-around functionality and low deployment overhead, ... and want choice when it comes to who can help them implement their solution.” The report also credited Sun with being “the undisputed provisioning market leader” and “the market share leader with no signs yet of a slowdown.
