EMC Smarts Chosen as Core Analysis and Impact Assessment Software for Service Assurance

Hopkinton, Mass.-Monday, January 30, 2006, EMC Corporation, the world leader in information management and storage, today announced that BT Global Services will leverage EMC Smarts software to monitor the performance and availability of its MPLS (Multiprotocol Label Switching) network, further supporting full-service assurance for its leading business customers.

In recent years, BT’s communication services have extended beyond the telecommunications arena to include emerging technologies such as IP telephony, Voice over IP and content delivery. As a world leader in the design, delivery and management of infrastructure for large enterprises, BT required a management solution that could provide highly automated and intelligent performance and availability monitoring to ensure optimal delivery of these advanced telecommunications services. Through 24x7 monitoring of these critical networks, including IP (Internet Protocol), MPLS and optical transmission facilities, Smarts aims at helping BT maximize performance of its customers’ business networks, increase service availability and optimize efficiency.

“Our aim is to provide customers with a world-class service. Networks, therefore, have to be failsafe and must perform flawlessly. We also need to be able to intervene quickly in the event of a fault. EMC Smarts delivers a highly automated monitoring solution that reports, alerts and administers crucial information, allowing us to manage networks according to the key business objectives of our customers and deliver next-generation networks,” said Roel Louwhoff, President, Customer Service & Network Operations, BT Global Services.

“BT’s ability to adapt to the changing face of the communications industry is a testament to the flexibility and innovation of its services, and its selection of EMC Smarts is a reflection of EMC’s vision and strategy for managing networks in a single, automated solution. We are delighted that BT has entrusted us to help manage these mission-critical customer networks,” said Howard D. Elias, Executive Vice President, Corporate Marketing, Office of Technology and New Business Development, EMC Corporation.
