Dow’s BEST Program Receives NSBE Golden Torch Award

WEBWIRE

Dow’s Building Engineering & Science Talent (BEST) Program recently received the 2009 Golden Torch Award for Corporate Diversity Leadership from the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). The Award recognizes one company that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to increasing diversity and pioneering initiatives within the community.

“We are highly honored that BEST has been recognized by NSBE, an organization with whom Dow has a long-standing relationship,” said Alveda Williams, Dow Core R&D group leader and BEST Symposium Chair. “This award symbolizes Dow’s efforts to attract top talent for the company. As the talent pool grows increasingly diverse, it is critical that we build and sustain relationships that enable us to source the very best graduates. We need the variety of opinions, ideas and perspectives that a diverse workforce delivers in order to help fuel innovative solutions.”

BEST is primarily intended to introduce African American, Hispanic and Native American U.S. doctoral and postdoctoral scientists to the wide range of rewarding careers in industrial research and in particular, the many opportunities within Dow. The conference, developed jointly by Dow’s minority scientists and a Ph.D. recruiting team, demonstrates the Company’s commitment to a diverse workforce. As part of Dow’s efforts to connect with the talent pipeline, Dow R&D is continuously working toward building awareness of the Company as an employer of choice among science and engineering doctoral and postdoctoral students.

The success of Dow’s BEST Program will be further recognized March 28, 2009 at the 12th Annual Golden Torch Awards in Las Vegas. Williams will be accepting the Golden Torch Award on behalf of the BEST Program.
