Web-Based Training Program Supports Substance Abuse Education

WEBWIRE

myPlaybook is a unique evidence-based program designed to prevent alcohol and other drug related harm among college student-athletes. The full web-based program will be an 8 course series emphasizing a different topic each semester beginning with the Fall Freshman semester. Funding for the development of the program is being provided by a grant from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), and funding for a large-scale evaluation of the first course of the program is being funded by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and NIDA.
Prevention Strategies leveraged LeanForward’s elearning development team to create this interactive online training program.

LeanForward’s Instructional Designers incorporated established instructional design and adult learning theory principles to create an online experience that engages the students and facilitates efficient knowledge transfer. myPlaybook also incorporates interactive multimedia exercises to facilitate deep processing of the information and verify the students understanding of the information covered. Advanced training simulations then allow the learners to practice harm preventions strategies in a safe environment. Software applications used to create the online program include Flash and Lectora.

The myPlaybook series will be deployed to over 200 colleges via LearnPoint, LeanForward’s hosted Learning Management System (LMS). LearnPoint is an affordable and intuitive LMS that enables organizations to efficiently manage and document their training initiatives.

“The first myPlaybook course has exceeded our expectations as well as those of our clients.” said Dr. David L. Wyrick, President of Prevention Strategies. “This is the fourth online substance abuse training project that we have engaged LeanForward for and once again they have delivered a highly engaging program that effectively addresses the needs of our unique audience.”
