Tennis players around the world soon will be able to gain extra power and longer string life thanks to DuPont™ Teflon® friction-reducing polymer.

Beginning this year, the new lines of HEAD Pro tennis racquets will use grommets made with Teflon® friction-reducing polymer technology. With a low-friction contact surface enabling the strings to move through the grommets with little resistance, the strings are able to maintain their energy during ball impact, providing more power.

HEAD also signed a licensing agreement with DuPont Fluoropolymer Solutions to market the new racquets using the DuPont™ Teflon® brand to create a unique performance differentiator, starting with their new Pro tennis racquet lines. They plan to begin a worldwide campaign in the first quarter to market this new technology.

“This is a winning technology advancement for DuPont and our customer, and it’s the first major use of the Teflon® brand in the sports equipment category,” said Christa Kaiser, global business manager, Teflon® Finishes. “When a well-known brand such as HEAD promotes the Teflon® brand, it’s been our experience that it generates interest in the brand from other companies in the category. Sports equipment is an incredibly large and diverse business - nearly USD 700 billion - so we’re looking to expand the Teflon® brand and our polymer technology into the sporting goods segment.”
