Lufthansa lifts passenger count in 2008

More than 70 million passengers flew with Lufthansa and Swiss during the year

Lufthansa carried more passengers in 2008 than in the previous year. In the twelve months from January through December, a total of about 57 million passengers took flights with Lufthansa, an increase of 1.2 per cent on the year-earlier level. Capacity in the same period was raised by 4.9 per cent. Revenue passenger-kilometres rose by 3.5 per cent. The seat load factor fell by 1.1 percentage points to 78.6 per cent.

All in all, Lufthansa and Swiss welcomed more than 70 million passengers aboard their flights, an increase year-on-year of about 12.2 per cent. Of the total, more than 13 million flew with SWISS. The number of flights overall increased by 10.9 per cent to 830,819.

Lufthansa Cargo transported around 1.7 million tonnes of cargo and mail, which is six per cent less than in the previous year. The cargo load factor fell by 3.2 percentage points to 65.8 per cent.
