Washington, D.C. -– NPR Music’s series of live online concerts, available on www.NPR.org, continues with a night of solo acoustic performances by Colin Meloy, lead singer of The Decemberists, and singer-songwriter Laura Veirs on Saturday, January 28.

The concert will be available in three ways for on-demand listening. The live online streaming on www.NPR.org/music begins at 7:30 PM (ET); the audio will be archived permanently on the NPR website. Additionally, the entire concert will be available as a free MP3 download beginning Sunday, January 29. A selection of songs from the performance will also be featured in the weekly NPR All Songs Considered Podcast. The ASC Podcasts rank among the most-downloaded on iTunes, Yahoo and other leading directories, and are the No. 1 most-downloaded weekly podcast among NPR’s 33 offerings. The ASC Podcast will be available on Wednesday, February 1.

For the first time since the NPR Music series began in January 2005, this concert will webcast from The Birchmere, www.birchmere.com, a historic music hall in Alexandria, Va. known for its unique and intimate setting.

With the January 28 concert, Pabst Brewing, maker of Pabst Blue Ribbon, also joins as the exclusive underwriter for the NPR concert series.

The hit audio webcasts, produced under the All Songs Considered banner, have featured 17 live concerts to date including James Brown, Sinead O’Connor, The White Stripes, The Shins, David Gray, Lucinda Williams, My Morning Jacket and Death Cab for Cutie, among others. The previous concerts on NPR.org have been listened to more than 1 million times, and concert-related NPR.org web pages have been viewed more than 2 million times, with listener response coming from around the world. All of these past concerts can be heard anytime at www.NPR.org/music.

Meloy is the lead singer and primary songwriter for The Decemberists, a pop-rock band featured in the NPR live concert series last May. He will perform songs from The Decemberists’ playlist and his new, limited release EP, Colin Meloy Sings Morrissey. Seattle singer-songwriter Laura Veirs is currently on tour following the release of her album Years of Meteors.

Separate from this concert series, earlier this week, NPR Music expanded its partnership with WXPN Philadelphia to offer four weekly, live online concerts on Fridays, January 27 – February 17. The first three performers are Shawn Mullins on January 27, Rosanne Cash on February 3, and The Wood Brothers on February 10. The concerts’ audio will be available for live online streaming at 12Noon (ET), then will be archived permanently for on-demand listening as streaming audio on www.NPR.org/music.
