Innovative Application Sends Song Tags Directly from Car for Purchase

LAS VEGAS – Airbiquity (www.airbiquity.com), a global leader in wireless connected services, unveiled its new song tagging application in time for CES 2009, that allows music enthusiasts to tag their favorite songs on their car stereo for purchase from their car or online using their preferred online music store.

Independent research indicates that most people discover new songs while driving and listening to their favorite radio station, be it FM, HD or satellite radio. Users riding in a car listening to the radio may discover a new song they like and want to remember for a later purchase. With song tagging, the song’s vital information, like artist, title and release year, is saved for the user to access later and complete the purchase cycle. This quick “digital note” could result in increased revenue generated for music retailers, as consumers will easily remember their new favorite artists or songs.

Airbiquity offers an innovative song tagging application as part of its Entertainment & Fun suite of Connected Services for automotive OEMs and car radio manufacturers. Airbiquity’s “Tag, Upload and Buy” method allows users to easily purchase their favorite songs directly from inside their car or from their favorite music store online.

A song tag is an encrypted digital code identifying a specific song embedded in an FM, HD or satellite radio broadcast. When a user “tags” a song from the car stereo Airbiquity’s technology stores the song’s metadata code including title, artist and year, in a local list of song information. When the user presses the “Save Tags” buttons, the metadata is sent in real-time to the user’s online account. The user later logs in via a customizable web portal where he can review his favorite tags and purchase the songs.

Airbiquity’s design can also offer a “Buy it Now” button in the car where the user sends a request to immediately purchase a song. When he next accesses his account, the digital music file will be downloaded and ready to play or transfer to a device.

Unlike other song tagging applications, Airbiquity’s solution does not leave the song tags on the device side, but instead transfers the data at the touch of a button. Song tags are sent from the vehicle using Airbiquity’s patented aqLink modem to its VIAaq managed services platform. The solution allows for seamless data transfer using cellular voice networks rather than relying on conventional data channels. No subscription is required.

“Radio continues to serve as a great way to discover new music,” said Kamyar Moinzadeh, president and CEO of Airbiquity. “Our real-time solution reinforces the link between the discovery process and the final purchase. We can now provide instant gratification for users and an enhanced, interactive listening experience in the car.”

Members of the press are invited to see live demonstrations of Airbiquity’s PND and embedded solutions at PEPCOM’s Digital Experience! event, Wednesday, January 7 at The Mirage Hotel or at ShowStoppers on Thursday, January 8 at the Wynn Hotel.
