PHILADELPHIA.— Borders, a leading retailer of books, music and movies, will open a new store Dec. 17 at Philadelphia International Airport. The 909-square-foot store, located between Concourses D and E, will be the retailer’s second store in the airport. It will offer over 7,000 book titles, including audiobooks, top selling DVDs and CDs as well as select gifts and stationery items — all in an award-winning retail format.

“We are pleased to be opening a second Borders store in the Philadelphia International Airport,” said Jill Lyon, vice president of store planning and construction for Borders Group. “Our airport stores offer a great selection of books, DVDs and CDs to entertain travelers. Whether customers are looking for the hottest bestsellers, beloved classics or are hoping to discover a new author, they will find something perfect to enjoy en route to their next destination at Borders.”

Borders also operates stores in airports located in Indianapolis; Detroit; Baltimore; Phoenix; Orlando, Fla.; Seattle; Dallas; Boston; Houston; Las Vegas; Miami; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; Washington, D.C. and Cincinnati, as well as at John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark airports in the New York City area.

This year, Borders was awarded the “Best Specialty Retail Brand Operator” and “Retailer with Highest Regard for Customer Service” by Airport Revenue News (ARN), a leading publication for airport executives, concessionaires and others involved in the aviation industry. Previously Borders was awarded the “Airport Revenue News Best Concessions” prize in 2006 for the “Large Retailer Division,” and in 2005, second place in the categories of “Best Airport Retailer” and “Retailer with the Highest Regard for Customer Service.” In 2004, the Borders airport store division was named “Best Retail Specialty Brand Operator,” and in 2003, ARN recognized Borders as the “2003 Best New Specialty Retail Concept,” almost immediately after the first Borders-branded airport store opened in 2002. The ARN awards are the most prestigious in the industry with approximately 3,000 airport executives, consultants and concessionaires along with an independent panel of judges nominating and selecting airport retailers for the awards.
