Company Set Industry Standard with Best-In-Class Firewall and Intrusion Prevention Systems; Protects Enterprises from Emerging Threats

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 23, 2006 - Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: JNPR) today announced that customers worldwide are securing their networks with Juniper’s high-end integrated security gateway (ISG) that combines firewall/virtual private network (VPN) and intrusion detection and prevention (IDP) capabilities on a single appliance.

Some of Juniper Networks’ latest customers include: AvantGo®, a mobile Internet service of iAnywhere; ProBusiness, a division of ADP National Account Services; University of Nevada, Reno; Yakult, one of the largest food distributors in Korea; Tabung Haji, a financial organization in Malaysia; Persistent Systems, a software development company in India; Bergen Kommune, a local government organization in Norway; and TDC Song, a leading telecom operator in Norway.

“Juniper truly understands enterprise requirements for the next generation of advanced integrated security appliances,” said Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for VPNs and Security at Infonetics Research. “According to our research, since the release of the ISG 1000, 2000 and IDP modules, ISG revenue has grown significantly faster than the high end firewall and IPS markets. Juniper’s innovative new products have allowed them to gain market share and customer traction.”

Hitesh Sheth, vice president of Security Products at Juniper Networks, added, “Juniper is executing on its long-time vision, and continues to build upon its leading firewall/VPN platform and proven ScreenOS operating system with no compromise integration. We are the pioneers of the next generation firewall with IPS and have set the standard for multi-service security gateways.”

Delivering on the Enterprise Infranet framework, the Juniper Networks’ ISG 1000 and 2000 platforms can be operated as a single firewall/VPN service or with IDP as an elective add-on to provide enterprise customers with increased levels of delivery and threat control. Medium to large enterprises, as well as carriers and data centers utilize the integrated security gateway platform and IDP to protect its networks against worms, trojans, spyware and other emerging threats, as well as application layer threats. Used in combination, the ISG with IDP appliances provide strong access control, secure communications, and network and application-level security while lowering the total cost of ownership for deploying best-in-class firewall, VPN and intrusion prevention services.

In addition to leveraging Juniper’s best-in-class firewall/VPN and IDP products, customers also benefit from Juniper’s J-Security Center portal, a community site that provides the latest information on vulnerabilities and viruses. The J-Security Center is supported by Juniper’s J-Security Research Lab group, which is comprised of in-house experts and multiple, best-in-class technology partners located across the globe to provide distributed coverage and up-to-date protection against existing and emerging threats. The J-Security Center can be found at security.juniper.net.

“Firewall/VPNs with IDP provide our government organization the option to segment our networks and add another layer of protection for our server farms, gateways and mission-critical applications. With the integrated security gateway platform with IDP, Juniper Networks continues to offer best-in-class traffic-processing technologies that provide critical security intelligence throughout the network. In addition, with the J-Security Center portal, Juniper enables us to be one step ahead to protect ourselves against existing and emerging threats and vulnerabilities,” said Odd Terje Systad, director IKT Drift at Bergen Kommune.

Bob Pierce, senior network engineer at ProBusiness, said, “In our business, it’s critical to exchange data reliably and securely with clients. The network is the foundation upon which our business and client satisfaction is built, which is why we deployed the ISG 2000s with IDP at the edge of the network to secure our applications and data. With the Juniper solution, we can do what our clients expect us to do without interruption, such as process payrolls, perform human resources administration services, and ensure all data is backed-up in a timely fashion. We can spend time focusing on the needs of our clients versus spending time addressing network issues.”

“We wanted a single security solution that could provide both firewall and IDP capabilities for both operational and performance reasons,” said Jeff Springer, network security manager for the University of Nevada, Reno. “Juniper Networks gave us the flexibility and scalability we needed to meet the needs of our campus today and tomorrow by delivering the ISG with IDP capabilities. By minimizing the number of devices running in-line, we can eliminate latency issues while increasing network performance and reliability.”
