Namco and Verizon Wireless Launch Popular “TEKKEN 2” for Mobile Phones.

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — Verizon Wireless, builder and operator of the nation’s most reliable wireless voice and data network, and Namco Networks, a leading publisher and developer of mobile games and entertainment for the mass-market casual gamer, today announced the launch of “TEKKEN 2™,” the hard-hitting mobile version of the smash hit arcade and console game series, “TEKKEN,” on Verizon Wireless phones.

“TEKKEN 2” is the first game from the popular “TEKKEN” series to go mobile in the United States, and beginning today, it will be available exclusively to Verizon Wireless customers. Verizon Wireless customers who download the game beginning today through March 2, 2009, will also be entered for a chance to win a “TEKKEN 5” arcade machine and other prizes.

“We’re excited to be the first in the United States to bring this popular game to our customers,” said Ed Ruth, director of digital media at Verizon. “By bringing Namco’s ‘TEKKEN 2’ to Verizon Wireless customers, we’re giving gamers a chance to experience the thrills and excitement of this game wherever they are using the Verizon Wireless network.”

Designed exclusively for a mobile experience, “TEKKEN 2” challenges fans of the popular arcade and console game series to master 10 hit combos, powerful moves and crushing counters as they challenge seven characters from the arcade classic to win the King of the Iron Fist Tournament. Players can select one of three fighters, each with its own array of movements and special attacks, to defeat other characters in best of three matches. If players are victorious, new characters are unlocked and made available. Players appearing in the game include Jun, Heihachi, Nina, Kazuya, Paul, Yoshimitsu, Devil and Angel. Players will enjoy the fast-paced action they have come to expect from the “TEKKEN” series, including furious fighting moves and combos; signature 3D graphics; and iconic playable characters, each with their own unique fighting styles. Players can enter the Iron Fist Tournament in Original Mode; test their stamina in Survival Mode; or play Beginner Mode, where pressing a single button generates randomly selected fighting moves.

“‘TEKKEN’ is one of the most popular and well-known fighting games available, and its mobile debut is as exciting for amateur fighters as it is for series veterans,” said Scott Rubin, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Namco Networks. “In addition to giving consumers the ability to play anytime and anywhere on their Verizon Wireless phones, the optimized controls and the one-button special attacks make it easy for anyone to fight like a pro.”

The “TEKKEN” arcade and console game series has been popular among gamers since the release of the first “TEKKEN” game in the arcades in 1994.
