BT Germany and Elster Group signed a substantial, 8-year outsourcing contract for international IT and communications. Under the terms of the agreement, BT will provide data centres, the wide-area data network (WAN), desktop support, user help desk and a variety of IT services across 38 countries. The BT HP Alliance plays a central role in this deal with HP supplying the desktops, printers and global helpdesk. The total order value of the contract is in the region of €100 million.

The Elster Group is a leading manufacturer of precision integrated metering solutions for the gas, water and electricity industries. Services provided also include the management of the local in-house network infrastructure (Managed LAN), IP Telephony, messaging, audio conferencing, and the hosting of Elster’s SAP systems and application servers.

Christoph Schmidt-Wolf, Chief Financial Officer at Elster Group said, “This contract is an important strategic move for the Elster Group. We can now reduce the number of supplier interfaces and gain tighter control of our infrastructure through Service Level Agreements (SLAs) that meet our business requirements. We expect substantial cost savings while we focus on our own priorities and free the resources we need to grow our core business.”

Karsten Lereuth, CEO BT Germany said, “I am delighted that BT has been chosen to be the strategic partner for the Elster Group to centralise, standardise and manage their mission-critical infrastructure. It’s another great example of BT’s strategy to support global organisations in optimizing their value chain and yet another success to the credit of the BT HP Alliance.”
