SHANGHAI…Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced that it has received two awards for its sustainability practices in China. Eaton was named a “2008 China Excellent Corporate Citizen” by the Corporate Citizen Committee of China Association of Social Workers and was a winner of the “Multinational Company (MNC) Contribution Award for 30 years of Reform & Opening up” by China Enterprise News. To date in 2008, Eaton has received four sustainability awards in China and six elsewhere in the world.

“We’re honored that Eaton’s sustainability and corporate responsibility leadership is being recognized in China again. While we feel good that we are being recognized for our continuing commitment to the Chinese market, what really motivates us is to bring sustainability strategies to our customers and the communities in which we operate,” said Joe-Tao Zhou, president of China, Eaton Corporation. “As a multinational company in China for many years, we are well-positioned to utilize our expertise, technology innovations and global capabilities to support China’s economic growth, as well as to help build better communities.”

The corporate citizen award was announced earlier this month at the fourth China Corporate Citizen Forum in Beijing, which was co-organized by CCTV-2, the economic channel of China’s Central TV Station, and Tencent Foundation. Fifty Chinese and foreign companies, including Eaton, Intel, IBM, Pepsi and Lenovo, were selected by a judging panel for the “2008 China Excellent Corporate Citizen” award.

Eaton won the “MNC Contribution Award in 30 year Reform & Opening up” for its outstanding contribution to Chinese economic and social development as a multinational company. A total of 60 multinationals won the award, which aims to inspire more MNCs to contribute to the development of the society in addition to pursuing economic profits.

These two awards are the latest in a series of honors the company has received during 2008 for its sustainability progress in China and elsewhere around the world. Other awards include:

- “Most Committed Multi-National Award” for Social Responsibility in China -- Foreign Investment in China magazine

- “Golden Bee Honor Roll” for achievements in providing sustainable products and services in China -- China WTO Tribune magazine

- #2 on list of “100 Best Corporate Citizens” -- Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) magazine

- #1 in industry sector for “Best Corporate Citizens” -- CRO magazine

- Among “World’s Most Ethical Companies” – Ethisphere magazine

- #1 on list of “Top Innovators” on Information Week – Brazil’s “Information Week 100” list

- Among “Top Innovators” on Information Week - U.S. “Information Week 500” list

Earlier this month, Eaton released its first Sustainability Report for China. The report offers an inside perspective on the wide array of innovative Eaton technologies, partnerships and investments that are helping to build a sustainable future for the Chinese market.

Eaton began operations in China in 1993 through a joint venture agreement to manufacture steering control units and hydraulic motors. Since then, its presence has grown significantly in the region through acquisitions, joint ventures and wholly-owned subsidiaries. In China today, Eaton has 27 operations with more than 11,000 employees.
