Optibase Powers Advanced Learning System in St. Louis Area Schools

WEBWIRE

MOUNTAINVIEW, CA , January 16, 2006 – Optibase, Ltd. (NASDAQ:OBAS) a leading provider of advanced digital video solutions, today announced that the Kirkwood School district in Missouri is using its MGW2000 Media gateway streaming platform to deliver live Cable TV channels and VCR/DVD media to all classrooms of its two Middle Schools.
Located near St. Louis, the Kirkwood School District has replaced aging analog video distribution systems with the state-of-the-art MGW2000 platform. Looking to provide its students and staff with an innovative learning experience, packaged in a highly reliable and easy to use digital video distribution system, the district turned to Midwest Concepts Corporation, an Omaha-based systems integrator specializing in educational video systems, to implement an advanced digital video distribution system for streaming different head end-based video sources as well as IP multicast-broadcasting from the classrooms. Each school houses six Optibase MGW 2000 systems and streams live cable TV channels as well as content from on-site DVDs, VCRs and Laserdiscs. All together, 72 channels of multicast MPEG video are currently streamed on the Kirkwood Local Area Network. Optibase’s web-based management software provides the network administrator with full control of multicast streams and network admin offices are setup as “virtual classrooms” for real-time diagnostics.
“The Optibase MGW2000e Media Gateway has once again proven itself as the ultimate choice for multi-stream, head end-based streaming applications, said Chris Hamilton, Director of Education Sales, Midwest Concepts Corp. ” The ability to stream 6 video sources from a single piece of hardware is a huge advantage when dealing with schools that utilize many video sources. Fewer pieces of hardware make it so much easier to manage and maintain for school network administration. Add to that the proven 24/7 Optibase reliability and we end up with a solution to offer our customers that simply gives them the best possible value for their dollar".
“Our close cooperation with Midwest Concepts Corporation has once again yielded a high quality video solution for the education market,” said Adam Schadle, President of Optibase Inc. "Through the collaborative efforts of both companies, the district was provided with resources that empower its teachers and impact student learning. We take pride in this accomplishment.”
