Welbourne Companies launches IT subsidiary to support hotel industry

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Welbourne Companies has launched Welbourne IT, a new subsidiary that will specialize in designing, implementing and supporting onsite hotel information technology.

Welbourne IT was founded and will be headed by hotel technology veteran Brian Richter, who most recently served as director of event technology and information systems at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown. There, he managed a 10-member team that performed a total technology replacement that included designing and installing a multimillion-dollar conference center audio and visual system, implemented logos on the lobby floor, renovated the HSIA billing system, several server/system upgrades including Guestware, Delphi, and Saflok, integrated a new point-of-sale system and completed a full migration from a Windows NT/98 to a Windows 2003/XP environment.

“Working with customers and the complex systems at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown taught me the importance of customer service, which is often lacking in the information technology field,” Richter said. “More importantly, we were able to achieve a significant cost savings for the hotel that resulted in a 20 to 30 percent increase to the bottom line.”

Welbourne IT will focus mainly on providing IT support and repair and cost-savings strategies, including property management integration, software repair and installation, wireless networks for hotel lobbies, business centers, meeting space cabling and connectivity and copier and phone networks. In addition to its main hotel-specific support, Welbourne IT will also provide expertise for apartments, small businesses, and high-end custom homes.
