Atos Origin to become a VMware global IT partner to address growing demand for adaptive virtualization services

WEBWIRE

Paris, Atos Origin, an international IT services company, today announced that it will become a VMware global IT partner to address the growing demand for adaptive virtualization services*. The relationship will enable Atos Origin to deliver end-to-end virtualization services to customers during IT transformation phases. As a result, customers worldwide will have access to a broad portfolio of industry-leading virtualization solutions, which can increase IT agility while reducing capital, operating and energy costs by up to 80 percent through effective implementation of adaptive virtualization services.

“Virtualization is the highest-impact issue changing infrastructure and operations through to 2012. It will change how you manage, how and what you buy, how you deploy, how you plan and how you charge. It will also shake up licensing, pricing and component management.” (Gartner, Inc., “Virtualization changes virtually everything,” by Philip Dawson, Thomas J. Bittman, 28 March 2008)

Features of joint services:

* Customers benefit from reliable end-to-end services that enable customers to adapt to changing business processes fast and efficiently, reduce costs, and improve energy efficiencies.
* By consolidating applications on one server – instead of several – customers can reduce hardware, operating and energy costs by up to 80 percent.
* Atos Origin offers seamless integration of new solutions, and continues its services beyond the finalization of the project. In the case of a server failure, this offers dynamic management of computer capacity across a pool of servers.

Jens Andersen, CIO at Esko Artwork, a provider of solutions for packaging, commercial printing and professional publishing, said: “Atos Origin’s and VMware’s power lies in particular in the combination of technical capability and flexibility, not only during new projects but also with their existing customers.”

Gordon Sommerville, National IM&T Contract Director, NHS National Services Scotland said: “Atos Origin manages many of NHSScotland’s critical IT systems and the work they have been doing with VMware over the last 18 months has led to reductions in our costs and increased flexibility, with no adverse impact on resilience or availability.”

“We are very pleased to see the cooperation between VMware and Atos Origin,” said Peter Leever, IT Manager at Unigarant in Hoogeveen (a Dutch insurance company). “Like any customer, we want our key service and software partners to work together to deliver solutions tailored for our environment so we don’t have to spend time and resources internally in deploying and integrating technology. We’ve already seen the first fruits of their collaboration in our joint disaster recovery project delivered by the two companies, and we look forward to new services in the form of virtualization services”.

René Baas, Senior Vice President, Global Managed Operations at Atos Origin said: “As the market for virtualization solutions continues to grow, our customers show an increased interest in collaborating with experienced partners. This offering is in line with our industrialization and managed operations to ensure standardised processes and tools and ensure consolidated global delivery. This relationship is the final result of optimization of joint solutions and services to provide best in class adaptive virtualization services that will provide lower costs, better performance, more flexibility and more Green IT to our clients.”

Steve Jackson, Senior Director, Strategic Alliances at VMware said, “As a leading global systems integrator, Atos Origin leverages the VMware platform to help save its customers money and provide them with more flexible, scalable and reliable IT infrastructures. We welcome Atos Origin as a VMware global systems integrator and participant in the recently announced vCloud Initiative, which enables enterprises and service providers to deliver a tiered set of services, ranging from basic cloud services to more advanced capabilities enabled by new Cloud vServices. We look forward to growing our relationship with Atos Origin to provide innovative IT solutions for customers.”

* Adaptive Virtualization Services (AVS):
Virtualization plays an important role in adaptive IT to enable efficient changes in business processes. AVS is based on a virtualization framework which in collaboration with the customer is used during both the consultancy and project phase. By stacking several standardized building blocks e.g. storage and security, AVS provides four commoditized services to the market: server virtualization, desktop virtualization, application virtualization and disaster recovery virtualization. AVS provides a unique solution to the customer by customizing or adapting these commoditized services to the specific requirements of the customer.
