Built on the Cisco Open Network Platform, New Safety and Security Solutions Transform How Public Safety Agencies Secure and Protect Their Communities

SAN JOSE, Calif. - As public safety agencies around the country strive to do more with less and meet mission challenges, Cisco today announced a new set of solutions that will modernize the major functions of public safety, including headquarters and operations, field operations and patrol, emergency communication, and incident command and response. Additionally, Cisco announced a collaboration with IBM, BearingPoint and other industry leading companies to deliver new public safety solutions that help transform how public safety agencies secure and protect their communities.

Cisco will demonstrate these innovative solutions in booth # 5105 at the 115th Annual International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference and Exposition, to be held November 8 - 12, 2008 in San Diego, Calif.

In a time of shrinking budgets, increasing mission requirements and challenges in recruiting and retaining qualified personnel, public safety leaders are seeking innovative solutions to transform their current operations, to meet future needs and to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of their agency. “Cisco has brought top public safety companies together, under one portfolio, to address these significant tasks that lay ahead,” said Morgan Wright, Global Industry Solutions Manager for Public Safety and Homeland Security at Cisco Systems. “Our open-standards platform for safety and security has allowed tremendous innovation to occur, right here, on the show floor in San Diego.”

Cisco’s Safety and Security solution portfolio offers public safety organizations the ability to securely and effectively protect persons and assets with a scalable, reliable and open platform that can be rapidly deployed and customized to meet the unique needs of our communities. The solutions include:

The solution offers unified communications solutions that help connect people directly with one another while providing secure access to crucial real-time information anytime, anywhere.

* The Cisco and BearingPoint Public Safety Communications and Incident Command and Response solution provides effective governance, operations and reliable communications to first responders.

Cisco has worked with two Cisco Technology Developer Program partners to develop additional solutions for the Cisco Safety and Security Portfolio. The ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System (GLS) is used for wide-area acoustic surveillance coupled with audio analytics that detect, locate, identify, and classify gunfire and other explosive incidents in seconds and relay mission-essential information to dispatch and field personnel in public safety, homeland security, and military applications.
