‘Crazy’ Program at IAFT off to Strong Start

WEBWIRE

The eight students in the inaugural class of the Crazy Filmmaker Program (CFP) at the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) started classes yesterday.

The students began their day with a screenwriting workshop, followed by an editing workshop and a producing workshop. The out-of-the-classroom experience for the first leg of their crazy filmmaking journey will require them to record and edit behind-the-scenes footage and be part of the crew on Tears From Afar, Bigfoot Entertainment’s feature film, which also starts filming this week.

The aspiring filmmakers joining CFP have come from across the globe, hailing from America, Iran, Pakistan, India, Uganda and the Philippines. The levels of filmmaking aptitude vary from those who are completely green to others who have already spent time on set. Education levels also span from the newly minted high school graduate to someone holding a master’s degree in Literature.

“We decided to call the program the Crazy Filmmaker Program because the program emulates the craziness that is inherent in the world of filmmaking,” says Caesar Ditan, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Business Development. “CFP takes IAFT’s hands-on learning to the next level by providing its students the opportunity to be part of a studio crew, something which most students usually do not participate in until after they graduate.”

The Crazy Filmmaker Program is a new program developed at the International Academy of Film and Television (IAFT) in Mactan, Cebu. The program aims to equip students with the marketable skills and professional experience needed to break into the film and entertainment industry. What separates this program is that its on set experience significantly dwarfs the time spent in the classroom. Throughout the two years, students work on real music videos, corporate videos and feature films while being mentored by industry professionals. Features produced by Bigfoot, such as Midnight Movie and The Curiosity of Chance, have been distributed internationally.

Keith Sensing, Executive Director of IAFT, says of the program, “CFP is unlike any other program in the world right now… it is completely cutting edge… a unique and challenging experience for the students. The skills they learn and bullet points they can add to their resumés will definitely help them get ahead.”
