CES Panel on New Internet Presents New Markets for Consumer Electronics Applications

WEBWIRE

SANTA MONICA, CA -- 12/23/2004 -- IPv6 Summit, Inc. announced today that it is organizing a panel on the New Internet on Thursday, January 6, at the Consumer Electronics Show 2005 in Las Vegas, the largest consumer electronics show in the world (see www.cesweb.org).

“It is important to educate technology leaders about how the New Internet (IPv6) will provide increased IP addresses, mobility, quality and security into millions of our products,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA, the producer of the International CES. “What better place to introduce this New Internet protocol to more than 110,000 leaders in technology than the International CES.”

The New Internet, officially known as Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), has been mandated by the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as by other countries (including China, India, and South Korea) and Ministries of Defense (including Germany and France) to replace the existing Internet standard (Internet Protocol version 4, or IPv4), which has been in effect since 1983. The vast improvements of the New Internet will lead to addressable consumer electronics devices, ranging from game platforms to automotive stereo systems, that will create myriad new commercial products and services. Details of this technology change, and of the many business opportunities that it presents, will be presented by the panel at noon in Room N253 on January 6.

The panel includes executives from major consumer electronics firms:

-- Ted Tanner, Architectural Strategist, Strategic Relations and Policy Group, Microsoft Corporation.
-- Senior Group Manager, Panasonic.
-- Michael Gallagher, NTIA Assistant Secretary for Communications and Information and Administrator.
-- John Crain, Chief Technical Officer, Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

This panel will be of interest to the CEOs, CTOs, CIOs and marketing directors of consumer electronics companies, including those involved in communications, VoIP applications, gaming consoles, home appliances and security systems, cell phones and wireless systems.
