Marlborough, MA — Netezza Corporation (NYSE Arca: NZ) today announced that the Navy Exchange Service Command, (NEXCOM), has selected the Netezza data warehouse appliance as its enterprise data warehouse (EDW). The Netezza EDW analyzes data from NEXCOM’s global network of 305 stores and 1,200 service operations located on 104 naval installations. NEXCOM is a world-wide $2.5 billion chain of retail stores and hotels that offer a wide variety of services for active-duty sailors, reservists, retirees and their family members.

“We needed a high-performance EDW infrastructure that could scale as the number of users and data volumes increased to maintain the quality of our services and support,” said Kean Westcott, senior vice president, chief information officer at NEXCOM. “As a retailer, NEXCOM needs the ability to make sound decisions around initiatives such as customer relationship management and supply chain management.”

NEXCOM and Netezza partnered with technology solutions provider Yómarí to deploy the Netezza appliance using the “Yómarí Retail Intelligence Toolkit for Netezza.” The YRI Toolkit is a solution package designed to help retailers who use Oracle Retail rapidly deploy a complete reporting solution on Netezza.

“As more government organizations face soaring data volumes that require complex analytics, they are turning to the Netezza platform because it is designed specifically for high-performance and terascale analytics,” said Jim Baum, president and COO at Netezza. “Netezza’s unprecedented performance provides government agencies like NEXCOM with enhanced and streamlined decision support for improved efficiency in their retail operations.”

The Netezza Performance Server® (NPS®) family of data warehouse appliances is designed specifically for high-performance, terascale analytics and architecturally integrates a relational database, server and storage into a single compact and power-efficient unit. The system’s advantage comes from its patented streaming architecture. Netezza has placed processing power next to the data, so analysis occurs at the source at streaming speeds, delivering an unprecedented 10-100 times the performance of conventional systems at a fraction of the cost. Analyses that took days now take just seconds. This means a dramatic increase in productivity across the enterprise and faster time to value for business initiatives. Netezza appliances are changing the way organizations leverage information, creating a powerful analytic foundation for a new generation of business analytics that improve strategic decision-making and drive results.
