Areca Has Supported the Smartmontools for Linux

Taipei, Taiwan.- Areca Technology Corporation (ARECA), today announced that their SATA ll RAID firmware version 1.46 and later has supported the smartmontools for Linux, allowing customer using the Areca’s entire family PCI-X and PCI-Express series of high performance SATA ll RAID controllers and need of a way to control and monitor storage systems. The smartmontools package contains two utility programs (smartctl and smartd) to control and monitor storage systems using the Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology System (SMART) built into most modern ATA and SCSI harddisks. In many cases, these utilities will provide advanced warning of disk degradation and failure. Smartmontools can also be run from one of many different bootable CDs or floppies.
