Expressionist BASS is First High-Performance PC Speaker System to Feature Built-In Sub-Woofer

MILFORD, PA .– Altec Lansing, a division of Plantronics, Inc., today continued its legacy of audio innovation with the introduction of the new Expressionist™ BASS desktop speaker system – the industry’s first 2.2 desktop speaker system.

The Expressionist BASS is a powerful two-piece PC speaker set housing dual down-firing, radiating subwoofers built into each base for superb audio performance – designed for digital entertainment enthusiasts seeking optimal performance plus inspired design. Atypical of most high-end PC speaker systems the Expressionist BASS contains subwoofers within the system’s freestanding, cone-shaped body – thus eliminating the need for a third, bulky, bass-amplifying component where space is typically at a premium.

Additionally, the distinctive cone-shaped architecture of the new Expressionist BASS adds significant acoustic value to the speaker system. The rounded body decreases harsh edge diffractions which can typically “color” audio to the listener’s ear – resulting in highly efficient frequency responses with low distortion for much cleaner, more natural sound.

“The evolution of digital music and media has dramatically increased PC-centric playback, so Altec Lansing engineered this integrated system to audibly and aesthetically complement the desktop,” said Vicki Marion, president of Altec Lansing. “The unique chassis of the new Expressionist BASS is built to appeal to both eye and ear by amplifying fidelity as well as contributing a bold, distinctive new look to today’s multimedia systems.”

“The new Expressionist BASS proves that powerful, natural sound performance can come in a compact, space-saving package,” added Marion.

Unparalleled Audio Performance and Design

The platform of the Expressionist BASS speaker system focuses on audio purity by channeling power amplification in a downward motion – designed to radiate sound off hard surfaces and reflect audio in a 360-degree field. Powerful 4” (100mm) long-throw subwoofers are built into the base of each speaker. Engineered with two 1˝” (40mm) drivers, mid- and high- frequencies are compartmentalized so vocals and details come through with total clarity.

The choice of design and material for the Expressionist BASS speaker system is also distinctive – reflecting the historical character of Altec Lansing and professional grade audio. The unique cone-shaped chassis is fitted with eye-catching bezels and fasteners, visible connecters and drivers, heritage horn tweeter components and precision machined cage details for an iconic stance.

The Expressionist BASS speaker system also features an auxiliary input to provide convenient connection to any MP3, CD and DVD player.

The Expressionist BASS marks another audio innovation first for Altec Lansing, a company dedicated to designing exclusively for those seeking uncompromising sound and quality. Altec Lansing has a rich heritage of audio innovation and design that began with the introduction of sound in movies in the 1920s with “The Jazz Singer” and ultimately went on to pioneer the field of personal audio with the introduction of its first PC speakers, the first iPod docking system and the first iPhone compatible digital speaker system.
