Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that Brian Fetz, DisplayPort program manager for Agilent’s Digital Test Division, has been elected to the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) board of directors. VESA is the standards group that oversees the DisplayPort specification and many standards related to computer video displays. Fetz has been active in VESA’s Physical Layer Subgroup, where test processes for the DisplayPort compliance test specification are defined and demonstrated.

DisplayPort is a high-speed serial interface that connects next-generation video drivers to digital displays, primarily PCs and laptops. Laptops and displays that incorporate DisplayPort technology will consume less power, require fewer materials and be less expensive than devices that use older technologies.

“We are very pleased that VESA has elected Brian to represent Agilent on the board,” said Siegfried Gross, vice president and general manager of Agilent’s Digital Test Division. “DisplayPort is an important area for us. Having Brian serve on the board helps VESA and helps Agilent ensure that the membership has the solutions it needs. Our test solutions have been designed to provide consistent results and support engineers throughout the entire development process.”

Fetz is an Agilent application engineer focused on digital display interfaces. He graduated from California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo in 1983 and earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Idaho in 1991. Previously, Fetz worked on Agilent’s Bluetooth(r) and signal integrity solutions as well as in manufacturing where he worked as a production engineer and test engineer for base station and mobile testing products.

Agilent has been involved with the development of the DisplayPort standard since its inception. By providing active leadership to the continued development of the DisplayPort standard, Agilent helps VESA shape future test requirements.

In February 2008, VESA qualified Agilent as the only physical layer source compliance test vendor. The test solution includes a DSA90000 Infiniium Series oscilloscope, the U7232A DisplayPort compliance test software, W2641A DisplayPort test fixtures, 1169A probe amplifiers and N5380A differential SMA probe heads. Agilent completes its DisplayPort portfolio with a VESA-approved sink test solution, including the J-BERT N4903A high-performance serial BERT or 81250A ParBERT for multilane testing, the N4915A-006 DisplayPort cable emulator, and the N5990A-155 test automation software for automated compliance tests.
