National Alpaca Farm Days - 7 Local Farms Hagerstown, MD and Mercersburg, PA

The states of Maryland and Pennsylvania are recognizing and celebrating National Alpaca Farm Days on September 27, 28 from 10-4. Seven local Hagerstown area farms are participating and will be open to the public Saturday and Sunday. The alpaca industry continues to grow as more and more people discover these enchanting creatures. From purchasing a few non-breeders to have as pets and fiber producing animals on small acreage to investing in breeding quality stock, there are many different ways to enter this dynamic industry.

Why are we hearing more and more about alpacas? Why are some so expensive, and can I finance and insure them? How difficult are they to care for, and how much land do they need? What qualities make a good alpaca? Is there a support group in this area for new breeders? How important is their fleece, and what is done with it? Where can I find out more about the stability of the industry? The seven participating farms in this area have decades of combined experience to help you answer all these questions.

There will be pet and breeding stock alpacas for sale, alpaca products, raw fleece and yarn, and lots of friendly breeders on hand to help answer your questions. Free event. Participating farms are:

Alpine Alpacas - Nancy and Don Lake

Antietam Alpaca Co. - Kim Caruso

Cherry Run Farm - Beth and Jeff Hull

G.A.R. Alpacas - Lauren Petersen and Jim Michaels

Long Acres Alpaca Farm - Sarah and Mike Donahoe
