Programming Features “Top Tr3ce Wanna Be Latinos,” the Premiere of Two Animated Latino Series and an Entire Weekend en Espanol

NEW YORK.- MTV Tr3s is celebrating the fun, irreverent and prideful attributes in all Latinos as part of its Hispanic Heritage Month programming. Kicking things off are two different series of vignettes, “Rants” and “Words,” on September 15th in which the channel takes an insider’s look on uniquely bilingual and bicultural experiences.

“Rants” features Austin-based Latino comedy troupe Latino Comedy Project, riffing and ranting on different aspects of the Latino Culture, calling out stereotypes and “Latino Cliches” in a flip, fun way. The topics used range from family, names and jobs to beauty, body types and superstitions of the Latino Culture.

“Words” was inspired by the “Speak Tr3s” tagline that the channel created earlier this year and it introduces the characters of “Soy Mono,” an upcoming animated TV series. The campaign hones in on the experience of learning English as a second language and the humor that is inevitably part of it. The “Words” include Chair, Frito, Herpes, Injure, July, Mushroom, Texas and Water. “Words” was produced in conjunction with Hiccup Media.

“El Grito: Mexican Independence Day,” on September 16th is a day-long tribute feature the music programming from some today’s hottest Mexican artists, including Los Super Reyes, Thalia, Alejandro Fernandez, Paulina Rubio, AB Quintanilla, RBD, Julieta Venegas, Mana, Baby Bash and Akwid.

Moments in mainstream pop culture where Latinos have served as inspiration for fashion, foods, romance, music and entertainment are featured in “Top Tr3ce Wanna Be Latinos” on September 16th at 10 PM. Commentary from real Latinos Carlos Mencia, Lin-Manuel Miranda, George Lopez, Ingrid Hoffman Anjelah Johnson, Vida Guerra, and Adrienne Bailon (Cheetah Girls), will help viewers score the “Latino-ness” of the wannabes!

A special tribute to Selena, “Top Tr3ce: Selena Moments” and “Fiesta Broadway Special” are also part of the channel’s September 16th line-up.

“Lugar Heights,” the short form adult animated series that young, hip urban Latinos have been waiting for has its premiere on MTV Tr3s during Hispanic Heritage Month on September 29th at 10 PM. The series follows the adventures of a number of friends living in Anywhere Heights, USA: the energetic Manos Mendez, tough-talking China Lopez, and their amigos, Q-ba, and Roxy. Combining satire, dark humor, and pop culture in a parody of mass entertainment, the show is refreshingly innovative in its style, subject matter, and language, making it a milestone of urban entertainment. “Lugar Heights” is a production of LatCom Acquisitions.

Hispanic Heritage on MTV Tr3s wraps up on October 11th at 2 PM with the channel’s first-ever “Se Habla Espanol” weekend, featuring 24 hrs of Spanish-only music videos and concerts, a block of “Videos Subtitulados” where viewers can learn the meaning of their favorite Gringo lyrics, followed by episodes of popular MTV animated series “Celebrity Deathmatch” and “Where My Dogs At” dubbed in Spanish.
