Healthcare Shared Services Organization in Ontario to Provide Back-Office Services Using SAP’s Market-Leading Solutions

TORONTO - SAP Canada Inc., a fast-growing subsidiary of SAP AG (NYSE:SAP), today announced that Plexxus, a not-for-profit healthcare support services provider, will implement SAP® Business Suite applications and the SAP® for Healthcare solution portfolio to support supply chain, finance, payroll and human resources processes across its member healthcare organizations.

Plexxus was formed as a shared service to maximize non-clinical efficiencies and improve service levels, enabling its members to gain savings to be reinvested in direct patient care. To help realize this goal, Plexxus will leverage SAP Business Suite — a complete and integrated suite of business applications that help organizations better run their businesses — and deploy the SAP® ERP, SAP® Supply Chain Management and SAP® Supplier Relationship Management applications.

“Plexxus is committed to finding innovative solutions that will streamline and standardize business processes, increase efficiency and reduce costs for our members,” said David E. Yundt, president and CEO, Plexxus. “After completing an extensive public request for proposal process, we chose SAP because it delivers the comprehensive functionality our members need in a single, integrated solution. This technology is a key enabler in helping us drive continuous business process and service improvement in the future.”

Plexxus will also use the SAP for Healthcare set of solutions, a portfolio of state-of-the-art software tailored to meet the unique challenges of healthcare organizations. With its SAP implementation, Plexxus will provide a scalable platform for back-office systems for its current member hospitals and position them for future growth.

“Canadian healthcare providers today are under enormous pressure to improve their services and business processes due to constrained financial resources, more stringent regulatory requirements and increasing patient expectations,” said Mark Aboud, president and managing director, SAP Canada. “It is critical for healthcare providers to embrace technology and seek strategic partnerships that will provide long-term value, improve their business processes and help them answer the call for affordable, efficient and quality patient care.”

Plexxus will implement SAP solutions using a phased approach. The first phase will focus on streamlining its supply chain network and is expected to be completed in 2010. Participating member hospitals include Bloorview Kids Rehab, Lakeridge Health Network, Mount Sinai Hospital, North York General Hospital, St. Joseph’s Health Centre Toronto, Rouge Valley Health System, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, The Scarborough Hospital, Toronto East General Hospital, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Health Network and Women’s College Hospital.
