WEBWIRE

Representatives of federal and state agencies will be in Cameron, Mo., next week to share information about a continuing environmental investigation, and other information in response to public concerns about brain tumors in and around the community.

Residents of Cameron and surrounding communities are invited to attend this informational meeting, which will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 21, at the Cameron United Methodist Church, 201 N. Pine Street, in Cameron.

The meeting will focus on a discussion of results from recent testing of environmental samples collected by EPA Region 7 and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources at the former Rockwool Industries site and other locations in Cameron.

Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) staff also will be present to discuss a health-based analysis of the environmental sampling results. DHSS is also involved in a cancer inquiry from the Cameron area; however, data is still being gathered regarding cancer cases in the area and no results of that study will be available at this meeting. Another public meeting will be held to present the cancer inquiry results. Representatives from the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) will also attend the meeting.

The meeting will begin with a brief presentation of new information, with the balance of time devoted to a public availability session in which attendees will be able to meet individually with agency representatives and ask questions.
