15,000 AT&T Prepaid Phone Cards and Freedom Calls Events Will Connect Thousands of Families with Loved Ones Serving Overseas

San Antonio, Texas, December 20, 2005, AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today announced two significant efforts to help U.S. troops connect with their families over the holidays. The company will donate 15,000 prepaid calling cards for use by American military personnel serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait. In addition, the AT&T Foundation — the philanthropic arm of AT&T Inc. — will provide a $20,000 grant to fund videoconferencing events for families to speak directly with their loved ones serving in Iraq.

The company is providing 5,000 AT&T PrePaid Phone Cards to the United Service Organization’s Operation Phone Home Program. Each card will provide 20 minutes of calling time to the U.S. for soldiers.

An additional 10,000 AT&T PrePaid Phone Cards will be donated to the AT&T Pioneers for distribution in care packages sent to the troops and at local events with the Freedom Calls Foundation, a nonprofit organization that offers free video calls to the families of U.S. military personnel.

“AT&T’s contribution of phone cards shows that it fully understands the importance of helping our military heroes stay connected to their loved ones back home,” said Edward A. Powell, USO president and CEO. “We are grateful for AT&T’s continuing support of the USO and of our men and women in uniform.”

In addition to free phone calls, troops will be able to talk to their family members via video at holiday Freedom Calls events. The AT&T Foundation’s grant to the Freedom Calls Foundation will support events in New York City; San Antonio and Lubbock, Texas; Peoria, Illinois, and San Diego. The events, hosted by the AT&T Pioneers, will make it possible for family members to enjoy a free 20-minute video-enabled online chat session with U.S. troops serving in Iraq.

“Our troops need the support of the American people, particularly during the holiday season when it is especially difficult to be separated from family and friends,” said Tim McKone, executive vice president, AT&T Federal Relations. “We’re pleased that our technology and philanthropic outreach are making it possible for service men and women to connect in a meaningful way with their loved ones back home.”

“AT&T works hard to help people make connections with loved ones,” said Laura Sanford, president of the AT&T Foundation. “We are very proud to help make these calls possible, especially during the holiday season when our military heroes are so far from home.”AT&T has been a strong supporter of Freedom Calls and has supported dozens of Freedom Calls events across the country, connecting thousands of family members with their loved ones.
