TestAmerica Speaks on Analytical Techniques for Multi-Incremental Sampling and Improving Accuracies of 1,4-Dioxane Testing

WEBWIRE

Dr. Mark Bruce, Technical Director of TestAmerica, will discuss the analytical techniques that support multi-incremental sampling (MIS) and describe a new option for sensitive and accurate 1,4-dioxane testing. Both presentations will be given at the 2008 National Environmental Monitoring Conference (NEMC) on August 11th and 14th in Washington, DC.

The US Army Corps of Engineers has applied multi-incremental sampling on military sites to improve site assessment accuracy. Dr. Bruce, along with TestAmerica scientists, has been working with the USACE since 2003 to develop corresponding laboratory techniques for energetics, metals and semivolatile organics. The result of these collaborative efforts is new commercial testing applications that are currently being employed at both military and non-military sites throughout the United States. Dr. Bruce will describe the various laboratory processing options so site assessors can understand the strengths and limitations of each.

Groundwater monitoring for emerging contaminant 1,4-dioxane requires better sensitivity and accuracy. Dr. Bruce will present a new approach to meet this need using isotope dilution, selected ion monitoring and EPA Method 8260.

Dr. Bruce has more than 27 years of analytical chemistry experience and serves as a technical expert in method development and modification projects for both organic and inorganic analyses. Examples include arsenic speciation, low-level mercury, vapor space organics, leaching, and methyl mercury. Dr. Bruce has provided his leadership in developing custom cleanup methods to address sample specific interferences.
