Taipei, Taiwan. - BenQ announced today that its Mobile Internet Device (MID) has won the Bronze Award under the Interactive Product Experience category of the 2008 Industrial Design Excellence Awards (IDEAs). The award recognizes BenQ’s devotion to achieving its brand commitment, Enjoyment Matters, by offering end-consumers a most intuitive mobile Internet surfing experience.

BenQ’s MID features unique Free Surf User Interface highly praised by the jury. Through the ergonomic and instinctive operation model, it provides users an intuitive, speedy, and simple online surfing experience. BenQ Lifestyle Design Center strives to design touch panel and Motion Sensor technologies based on consumers’ daily behaviors. It results in an unprecedented operation experience of mobile Internet and complete removal of consumers’ usage barriers in handheld devices.

BenQ successfully extends users’ daily experiences onto MID’s operation model. For example, most people will shake candy cans until they find the candy flavor they desire. Inspired by this experience, BenQ’s designers created the free routing function which enables users to simply shake their devices to shrink and align all windows currently in use on the desktop for easy access and control. Through this interactive MID, users can now fully enjoy high speed mobile Internet experience, shorten uptake time, enrich and enjoy their personal digital lifestyles.

“With the improvement of touch panel technologies, how to combine a familiar and interesting operation model with complicated technologies is the biggest challenge for BenQ’s designers,” said Manfred Wang, Chief Design Officer of BenQ. “The award is recognition of BenQ’s excellence in developing innovative designs and technologies. In a dedicated pursuit of bringing enjoyment and quality to life, BenQ is committed to optimize today’s digital mobile lifestyle through observing consumers’ lifestyle and bringing innovative designs.”

There are 205 winners selected out of 1,517 entries from 26 countries in the fierce competition of 2008 IDEA, one of the world’s most prestigious design competitions.
